During this holiday season most of us are thinking about gifts, what we can give others and perhaps what we would like to receive. Although you would probably not put it under the tree, let me suggest the gift of peace as a worthwhile expenditure.
We have had the unfortunate experiences of having to resolve difficult situations where there was no legal planning in place:
- Young parents die unexpectedly and there are children that must be taken care of.
- A spouse becomes incompetent and the other spouse is not prepared.
- An aging parent suddenly dies or loses the ability to care for themselves, and the children do not know what to do.
- A loved one is hospitalized and unable to communicate their wishes, and the family is left with the difficult task of deciding what to do.
Many times people are hesitant to meet with an attorney because of cost concerns. We can say from experience that the money spent for legal preparation pales in comparison to how much it costs to fix problems once they have occurred. More importantly, the peace of mind it provides everyone is priceless.
Give yourself and your loved ones the gift of peace by being prepared. Please let us know if we can help.
